The Opera Promenade 2014: a programme of high artistic quality, spectacular scenography, fireworks, thousands of spectators. All contributed to the success of the largest open-air event in the capital dedicated to lyric art, organised by the Bucharest National Opera, which has reached its eight edition.
“The Opera Promenade is a promise for a new season. Over 10,000 spectators enjoyed the artistic moments that, starting with October, will become reference events for the cultural world in Bucharest. The season 2014-2015 means the first complete season under my management, which makes me even more responsible towards the spectators that will enter the new hall of the Bucharest National Opera, in a world that takes on new meaning.” Răzvan Ioan Dincă, General Manager of the Bucharest National Opera, declared.

If in the previous editions, the focus was mainly on promoting the artists of the institution, starting with 2013 the concept of the event is different, focusing on the development of the new projects of the Bucharest National Opera. Among the opera and ballet premieres from the season 2014-2015, fragments of which were included in the artistic programme of the Opera Promenade, were Verdi’s operas La Traviata, directed by Paul Curran, Falstaff in the directorial vision of the famous Graham Vick, Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini, directed by Jonathan Kent, La fille mal gardée by Ferdinand Hérold and John Lanchbery, choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton, and Giselle by Adolphe Adam, choreographed by Ethan Stiefel and Johan Kobborg.
The stage was another element that drew the attention of the audience present on the Opera esplanade at the end of August. With a size of 26x22 m and a height of 18 m, the stage where the event took place is the largest construction of this type, made of aluminium, in the South-East of Europe. Among the artists that bestirred applauses at the Promenade were famous soloists of the Bucharest National Opera, but also soloists of the Romanian National Ballet together with special guests from abroad, laureates of the International Voice Competition Le Grand Prix de l'Opéra, organised by the BNO, as well as artists from the country. This exceptional team of soloists saw the addition of the members of the Orchestra and the Choir of the institution, under the baton of conductor Cristian Sandu.
The event the Opera Promenade – the 2014 edition – was created with the support of the Mayoralty of District 5 Bucharest.
